Pajama Jammie Jam Slam Rules
Simply Poetic Entertainment presents The Pajama Jammie Jam Slam! The DMV's long-standing love and erotica-themed poetry slam, the Pajama Jammie Jam Slam is for everyone from professionals to novices, and hosted by Simply Sherri! Please note that the event is a competition, not an open mic. [If time permits, there may be a brief open mic after the slam.]
There will be a $100.00 first-place cash prize (with possible prizes for second and third).
There will be THREE themed rounds of poetry:
Round 1: Cupid Ain’t Sh*t! (Love Sucks Poem)
Round 2: Love Out Loud! (Love Poem)
Round 3: Freak Me, Baby! (Erotic Round)
Competitors are to be prepared to participate in all three rounds. Cuts for each round will be dependent upon the number of participants.
The Rules:
The poet’s piece during a given round will receive a score from 0 to 10, from five randomly-selected judges. The high and low scores are dropped and the middle three are added together, giving the poet a total score out of a possible 30. In the event that five suitable judges cannot be found, a group of three judges will be selected. In this case, all three scores given will be counted. The final score for each poet will be the cumulative sum of the poet’s scores for each round they participated in.
Each poem must be the poet's own writing.
Each poet gets 3 minutes and 30 seconds (plus a ten-second grace period) to read one poem; if the poet goes over, points will be deducted from the total score.
A poet’s time begins as soon as they say anything on stage or engage the audience in any way.
The poet may NOT use props, costumes, or musical instruments. This includes the removal of clothing.
The poem can only be performed by one person.
Poets ARE allowed to read from paper and electronic devices such as laptops or cell phones. There will be no point penalty assessed unless it’s used as a prop (as outlined above).
Finally, clothing is required; pajamas are optional. ;)
